THE SISSI COLLECTION
Anish’s new series is a set of achromatic canvases entirely in oil, torn and reassembled with lace fabric, previously treated to simulate aging.
The challenge was to tell the fragility of the human essence without using shapes or colour.
In popular culture, the figure of Princess Sissi is compared to an idea of independence and perfection; the story, however, tells of an extremely fragile person, whose fragmented soul is evoked by the holes in the fabric.
To create the paintings, a mix of thinners and anti-dryers was used which, over the years, should bring a light crackle to their surface.
The idea was to create paintings capable of aging with their owner, so that – with the passage of time – he can find the signs of aging on his face on the cracked surface of the painting, with a view to progressive self-acceptance.
The series is currently exhibited at the artist’s Atelier in Pontremoli, at Via Ponte Cesare Battisti n. 2.
The exhibition is open to the public every Saturday morning or by appointment. Visit the contact page.
